Methodology

How a product enters Lakou Data, how it is classified, and how it is verified.

What we track

The unit is the product, not the organization. An incubator or a program is an ecosystem actor, not an AI product.
Link to Haiti: a Haitian team (in the country or in the diaspora) or a product designed for the Haitian market.
The role of AI must be identifiable.
At least one public source or a verifiable submission.

Role of AI

AI at the core: The product would not exist without AI.
AI as a major feature: An existing product where AI is a major feature.
Built with AI: Built with AI development tools (Lovable, Cursor, Claude Code…), with no AI inside the product.
AI role not established: Not yet established.

Evidence levels

Maturity (how far along the product is) and evidence (how we know) are two separate axes. A prototype can be well documented; an "operational" product can be self-declared only.

V1 · Verified: Product reachable and AI function observed directly by Lakou Data.
V2 · Independent source: Documented by a third party: competition organizer, press, funder.
V3 · Self-declared: Only source: the team itself.
V4 · Reported: Mentioned, not yet qualified. Excluded from statistics.

Rules

Statistics count levels V1 to V3. V4 reports are visible but excluded from the numbers.
We never add up indicators from different sources: applications to a competition are not products.
Every entry lists its sources and when they were accessed. Entries not re-checked for 12 months are flagged.
Any team can ask for its entry to be corrected or removed.

Sectors

Main sectors follow the 8 priority sectors of the ProAI ecosystem mapping (2026), so the data stays comparable.
